Groovy
Tunes IntroductionThroughout the band's history, they remained always conceptual. Even as youngsters, their metaphorical bent far exceeded their craft. Their first album, recorded by a scrappy basement band technically, was called Cherry Town. Herein lies a summary of the lyrics. The tape itself and lyric sheet were destroyed long ago, although the title song exists in limited numbers and is included for historical perspective on the ENCORE! CD. After Sergeant Pepper, the band did the promo vinyl LEVEL 6 1/2 in limited quantities, now worth $1,000 US on the world collectors' market. It shows us vintage KHAZAD DOOM, in transition, but clearly headed toward the act they would ultimately become. The limited Edition retrospective CD called ENCORE! ,no longer available, is special because of its time capsule quality, capturing nearly a decade of music from KHAZAD DOOM. What you might say is special about ENCORE! is that it shows how the guys developed intellectually a sense for the poetry of their music, an ability to visualize the essence of each song clearly, from the lyrical simplicity of "In This World" to the zany broadway quality of Stanley's Visit to Kerkle Morff to the understated elegance of "Come with Me". |
